In addition to the prestigious Sydney Film Festival Awards, the Festival presents numerous awards for filmmakers, writers and producers through its Official Competition line-up. These prizes include a Sydney Film Festival Medallion, which is presented to the winner of the main competition, and a mesmerising swirl award designed and handmade in Sydney by Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy of Dinosaur Designs.

The Sydney International Film Festival (SIFF) is the most prestigious film festival in Australia and has been held annually in Sydney since its inaugural event in 1977. The SIFF is a not-for-profit organisation and relies on generous support from corporations, sponsors, donors and the general community. It is the only major Australian film festival to be endorsed by the FIAPF, the world’s most recognised organisation for promoting and protecting the professional interests of the international art cinema.

Each year, the Sydney Film Festival awards the best films in the Official Competition with nine illustrious honours – including the coveted Sydney Film Prize, which goes to the most audacious, cutting-edge and courageous work of filmmaking in the official competition line-up. This year, the ATP champion will receive $521,000 and the women’s champion will take home $108,000 in prize money.
