The South China Morning Post won 12 prizes, including in the Best Scoop category, at this year’s Hong Kong News Awards 2024. Reporters from the newspaper’s City desk, led by senior reporter Edith Lin and news editor Jeffie Lam, received the top award for their work exposing unauthorised structures added to luxury properties. They were also recognised for their coverage of the controversy surrounding a Dubai prince who shelved plans to open a family office in Hong Kong.

The winning team of the women’s epee and men’s foil at this year’s Hong Kong Open will receive HK$12 million, while fencer Vivian Kong won a gold medal in individual epee and swimmer Siobhan Haughey took home two bronze medals. The Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards scheme rewards the performances of individual and team athletes in fencing, running and swimming events at international competitions.

Those who wish to submit articles for this prize can do so from today (October 4) through November 4 at the G/F Exhibition Hall of the Science Museum. The exhibition introduces the Future Science Prize Laureates, allowing visitors to learn more about their research journey and achievements.

This year’s hk prize is set to feature a record number of winners, with nine from Hong Kong making the shortlist. This represents the highest number of local artists to make the list in the history of the award, and nearly two-thirds of this year’s shortlist were women, a first for the prize.

The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards is an annual event that shines a light on the genuine spirit of charity, civic awareness and goodwill in our community. Winners of the awards may not be famous, but they are ordinary yet exemplary citizens who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the areas of community contribution, self-sacrifice and courage, innovation for social good, cultural preservation and responsible business practices.

In a move to enhance the quality of medical education, the Hong Kong University of Medicine and Surgery (HKUMS) has launched the inaugural HK Prize for Excellence in Clinical Medical Research. This prestigious award recognises and honours the outstanding work of young researchers in various fields of clinical medicine.

In addition to the main HK$5,000 prize, there will be several other categories with cash prizes and other benefits. The winning entries will be selected by a panel of experts from the world-renowned universities and institutions. The judging will take into account the importance of the subject matter, the research methodology and its potential impact on a global scale. In particular, the judging committee will give special consideration to entries that make a significant contribution to the study of Hong Kong in the global context. This competition is sponsored by the Society for Hong Kong Studies (SHKS). SHKS is a scholarly non-profit professional association with more than 500 members worldwide from different disciplines. Its mission is to support the development of new theories and concepts on Hong Kong’s multifaceted connections with, and significance in, the world.
