HKJC Announces New Prizes For Chinese New Year

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has announced a total of HK$20.8 million in prize money will be available for racedays this Chinese New Year period. The prize pools for the Triple Trio, Quartet and First 4 races will be topped up from the Club’s Jackpot Reserve to provide an additional boost of around HK$5.2 million in each class.

The HK Global Development Prize aims to gather innovative ideas on establishing an Official Development Assistance programme to strengthen Hong Kong’s international development efforts and shape its role on the world stage. The winner will receive a cash prize of up to HK$500,000.

To ensure the draw’s fairness, a number of measures are taken, including the use of employees from HKJC’s security and customer service departments to perform the duties of preparing for and carrying out the draw, as well as the use of random selection procedures. The organisers also strictly test and examine all materials used in the draw, from boxing to transport, and make sure the same set of balls is not reused for two consecutive draws.

Hong Kong is well known for its vibrant art scene, and this year’s shortlist for the biennial Yidan Prize includes nine artists from the city. Nearly half of the finalists are women, which makes this the most gender-balanced shortlist in the history of the award. This is the fourth time that Hong Kong has made the list, and it is the only Asian city to have so many female artists on it.

This year’s HK$480 million prize is the biggest yet, with half of it allocated for a project fund to support changemakers who can scale their projects globally. The award ceremony was held at the ICC in Hong Kong and saw the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, The Honourable John KC Lee, deliver his opening remarks remotely.

Kong Cheuk-yan has received a lot of praise from fans after winning the gold medal in the women’s team all-around at the Paris Paralympics. Having undergone two ligament ruptures, the 30-year-old table tennis player still showed immense determination to pursue her dream. Her success has inspired many and strengthened the belief that despite hardship, one can achieve anything.
