The Different Types of Sydney Prizes

There are numerous people around the world who work hard to make an impactful difference in society. They deserve to be recognised and inspired by others. A sidney prize is a great way to do so. However, it is important to note that there are different types of sidney prizes with their own rules and requirements. This is why it is wise to familiarize yourself with these before you apply.

One such award is the Hillman Foundation’s Sydney Prize, which honours journalists who pursue investigative reporting and deep storytelling for social justice. Previous winners have included Rose Arce, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ed Yong. The prize is awarded monthly and is open to all journalists who write about injustice issues. It recognizes discernment of a significant news story, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skill in relating the story, and the impact of the coverage.

The City of Sydney also awards the Sydney Peace Prize, which honours leaders in global efforts to promote peace with justice and nonviolence. The City of Sydney’s support for the Sydney Peace Prize helps Laureates continue their work for a more equitable and peaceful world. The 2023 Sydney Peace Prize was awarded to Nazanin Boniadi, a human rights activist and actress who fights for women’s rights in Iran. She will be honoured at a ceremony in Sydney Town Hall later this year.

Another prize is the Event Cinemas Rising Talent Award, which recognises an emerging creative working in short film with a cash prize of $7,000. This award is open to NSW-based filmmakers who have had no more than five credits. Winners are selected by a panel of judges from the NSW Film and Television Industry Council.

This year’s competition received over 500 entries. Judges Patrick Lenton, Alice Bishop and Sara Saleh whittled them down to a shortlist of eight, before selecting the winning story, and two runners-up. The winning story will be published in Overland’s autumn 2024 issue, and the runners-up will be posted online. The judges and the Malcolm Robertson Foundation would like to thank all the entrants for their wonderful work.

In addition to these, there are many other sidney prizes that honor individuals who have made an impactful difference in society. These awards serve to recognize their efforts and inspire others to join them in their quest for change. These can include social and environmental initiatives, as well as entrepreneurship. Many of these individuals are highly recognized within their field, and may be invited to speak at events and inspire others.

Other notable sidney prizes include the Sydney Taylor Book Award, the Edelstein Prize and the Sydney Peace Prize. The former was established in 1968 in memory of the late Dr. Sidney Edelstein, a scholar and businessman who founded a specialty chemical manufacturing firm. It honors a student who has done unusual service to the department and the major. In 1985, the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee began designating Notable Books (originally called the Best of the Bunch Lists) in a number of categories.
