The project at Kampung Admiralty in Singapore was chosen as Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam. The project includes public facilities, community space and over 100 apartments for elderly residents. It was the only non-Western winner in this category, beating buildings including Russia’s World Cup stadium and the Qatar National Library.
Having returned to the region following two years of restrictions and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Singapore Literature Prize (SLP) ceremony made a return to its home at Victoria Theatre. This year’s winners included alllkunila (Azhagunila), innnpaa (Inbha), Jee Leong Koh, rma cureess (Rama Suresh) and Wang Gungwu (Home Is Where We Are Going). All the eight winners in this year’s English category are first-time winners, with a mix of seasoned writers and emerging voices. Suratman Markasan and Gungwu are the oldest winners to date, both aged 91.
At a special event at Mediacorp campus, the 2023 winners were revealed. The award is backed by the Singapore Business Federation and was created to highlight the work of entrepreneurs who are changing the world for the better. The winners will be invited to showcase their innovative solutions at the World Sustainable Cities Summit in 2022, organised by the UN Environment Programme. The winning organisations will also be given access to a business acceleration program to help them grow their businesses and expand internationally. They will also be provided with advice on how to develop their business models to scale. This will allow them to take their ideas to the next level and make a greater impact in the world.
